What is a WHO Simulation?

A WHO Simulation is a student-led reproduction of the World Health Organization’s World Health Assembly, recreating the political, social, cultural and economic realities of global health policy. For those of you who are familiar with Model United Nations conferences (Model UN), it is very similar to this, but is focused on the WHO’s activities.

Participants will represent a country, a non-governmental actor (NGOs and non-state actors) or a journalist and stay true to their role throughout the conference. During the simulation, participants will come into conflict, “make allies and enemies, engage in public and back-room dealings, cajole and coerce, compromise and stand their ground and use all sorts of tricks of the diplomatic trade to meet the goals of their individual roles”, while debating according to correct WHO procedure (IFMSA).

Delegates will research, debate, and apply their diplomacy skills to formulate their own interests while also keeping with their countries’ or organizations’ health policies. Then, all of the regions will convene in a plenary session to formulate a consensus document, which is later presented to the World Health Organization in Geneva.
